Aquitaine

Introduction

Aquitaine was combined with Poitou-Charentes and Limousin on January 1, 2016 to become Nouvelle-Aquitaine, one of 13 regions in France.

Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport (BOD) is the major airport near the city. It has connections to most major European cities and some North African cities like Tunis, Casablanca, Marrakech and Algiers. There are longer flights to Réunion and Montréal.
Biarritz – Anglet – Bayonne Airport (BIQ) is located about 5 kilometres from Biarritz. Several airlines serve the airport, with destinations being London, Helsinki, Nice, Lyon, Geneva, Paris, Birmingham, Dublin, Marseille and Amsterdam.
Bergerac Dordogne Périgord Airport (EGC) offers flights with Ryanair to Bristol, Brussels, Liverpool and London, with Flybe to Birmingham, Edinburgh, Exeter, London, Manchester and Southampton, with Jet2.com to Leeds, with Transavia.com to Rotterdam and with Twin Jet to Paris Orly Airport.

Beausoleil

We've traveled extensively in the Aquitaine area, usually renting a gite (country cottage) for a month in different places. We're particularly fond of the Dordogne region or Perigord and if you've read any of the Inspector Bruno books, you will want to visit. It's the land of fois gras, caves and prehistoric art along with excellent wine and amazing food.
