Walk round central London

Community Highlights Europe Walk round central London

I had to be up really early in order to start work at 7 in central London. I saw these tributes to the Queen on my way in.

As I had planned the day before, I headed to a few places after work to see what was going on. Piccadilly Circus was first.

From there I wandered over to Trafalgar Square. Like Piccadilly Circus, it was reasonably busy but no more than I think is typical for a late Saturday afternoon in pleasant weather in early September.

Then I walked down the Mall towards Buckingham Palace. Normally you can walk down the middle of it but now barriers kept people to each side. As I got closer to the palace the path got busier and busier until eventually there was quite a crowd. I got caught up in it while trying to find a way to cross to the other side. Finally I got my chance as the police near the Victoria Memorial allowed people through a gap between barriers. I was able to stop for a photo in each direction without being rushed by the police, though I couldn't stop for very long. Once I'd got to the other side I wandered along, looking at the tributes to the Queen which people had left and were leaving at different places.

Once I had got back to Trafalgar Square it was a simple walk along the Strand and Fleet Street to City Thameslink station and a train home.
