The Republic of Albania is a Balkan country that borders Montenegro, Kosovo and Greece. It has a coast on the Adriatic Sea in the west, and a coast on the Ionian Sea in the southwest. Despite having a troubled history, since the 1990s the country has been classified as an emerging democracy.
A República da Albânia é uma país balcânico que faz fronteira com o Montenegro, o Cosovo, a República da Macedónia e a Grécia. Possui uma costa a oeste no Mar Adriático e outra a sudoeste no Mar Jónico. Apesar da sua história turbulenta, desde 1990 o país tem sido classificado como uma democracia emergente.
Visitei este pequeno país quatro vezes. I visited this small country four times: 1995, 1996, 2015 & 2024.
AUGUST / AGOSTO 1995
Inter-rail along with a friend of mine. We travelled by ferryboat from Bari, Italy, to Durrës, from where we moved by taxi para Tiranë. We visited only the capital, where we spent a night. We left the country by bus to Macedonia, through the Qate Thanë border.
Intercarril na companhia de um amigo. Viajámos de ferribote de Bári, Itália, para Durres, de onde nos deslocámos de táxi para Tirana. Visitámos apenas a capital, onde passámos uma noite. Partimos do país de autocarro para a Macedónia através da froenteira Qate Thanë.

I arrived in Tirana by bus from Athens. Cheguei a Tirana de autocarro a partir de Atenas.

Then, I travelled to Starovë, Pogradec, where I spent two nights in a family friend home, after spending half a day in Elbasan. From Starovë, I made a day trip to Korcë by local minibus.

Then I made a tour, using local transportation, to the South along with an Albanian friend, with whom I have visited Berat, Vlorë, Sarandë and the neraby ruins of Butrint.
Depois, viajei para Starovë, Pogradec, onde passei duas noites em casa de uma família amiga, após ter passado meio dia em Elbasan. De Starovë fiz uma excursão de um dia a Korcë de miniautocarro. Depois fiz uma excursão para o sul, utilizando os transportes locais, na companhia de um amigo albanês, com quem visitei Berat, Vlorë, Sarandë e as ruínas nas proximidade de Butrint.
Returning back from Sarandë to Tiranë, unfortunately, we had no time to visit Gjirokastër, the homeland of the dictator Enver Hoxha. After spending a night in the capital, I travelled to Durrës from where I took a ferry to Trieste, Italy,
De regresso a Tirana, a partir de Sarandë, não tivemos, infelizmente, tempo de visitar Gjirokastër, a terra natal do ditador Enver Hoxha. Após ter passado uma noite na capital, viajei para Durres de onde apanhei um ferribote para Trieste, Itália.

I entered the country by bus through the border with Montenegro, from Ulcinj to Shkodër. Then I moved to Gjirokastër, where I spent three nights.
Entrei no país de autocarro através da fronteira com o Montenegro, de Ulcinj para Shkodër. Depois desloquei-me para Gjirokastër, onde passei três noites.
I have find the country quite different and the people have changed a lot, namely the way they dress, think, talk...
After leaving the Albania to Macedonia, through the Qate Thanë border, I returned to the country to spend two nights in Tirana, before taking a flight to Rome.
Achei o país muito diferente e as pessoas mudaram muito, nomeadamente no modo como se vestem, pensam e falam...
Depois de ter viajado da Albânia para a Macedónia, através da fronteira Qate Thanë, regressei ao país para passar duas noites em Tirana, antes de apanhar um voo para Roma.

The purpose to travel again to Albania was to visit Koman Lake, staying for a night at Valbona Valley and then moving to Kosovo through the city of Bajram Curri. My entry point in the country was Tirana, where I have spent a night at Osho Hostel.
O objetivo de viajar novamente para a Albânia foi de visitar o Lago Koman, pernoitando, por uma noite, no Vale de Valbonë e depois deslocar-me para o Cosovo através da cidade de Bajram Curri. O meu ponto de entrada no país foi Tirana, onde passei uma noite no Albergue Osho.
My trip was made with Berisha Travel Agency, witout booking in advance. Anyway, if you are travelling in the high season I advise you to book in advance.
A minha viagem foi feita através da Agência de Viagens Berisha, sem qualquer reserva. Contudo, se viajares na época alta, recomendo que reserves antecipadamente.
I have to say the service provided by this company was excellent and I strongly recommend it.
Devo dizer que o serviço prestado por esta companhia foi excelente e recomendo-o vivamente.
The trip was as follows:
A minha viagem foi de seguinte modo:
1. Transfer by minibus from Gazeli bus Station in Tirana to Koman Lake. Transporte de miniautocarro da estação rodoviária de Gazeli, em Tirana, para o Lago Koman [05:15-08:20, 12€].
2. Ferryboat from Koman to Fierzë. Ferribote de Koman para Fierzë [09:00-11:20, 10€];
3. Bus from Fierzë to Valbonë. Autocarro de Fierzë para Valbonë [12:00-13:20, 8€];
4. Transfer from Valbonë to Bajram Curri. Transporte de Valbonë para Bajram Curri;
5. Minibus/Miniautocarro from/de Bajram Curri to/para Gjakovë [08:00-08:50, 3€].
Fortunately, the guesthouse, where I spent the night in Valbonë, transferred me next morning to Bajram Curri in order to allow me to catch the minibus departing at 08:00 to Gjakovë.
Felizmente, a residencial, onde passei a noite em Valbonë, transportou-me na manhã seguinte para Bajram Curri de modo a eu conseguir apanhar o miniautocarro com partida às 08:00 para Gjakovë.
Koman Lake, a reservoir on the Drin River, which was built from 1979 to 1988, from Enver Hoxha dictator time, near the village of Koman, covers an area of 34 km2.
O Lago Koman, uma albufeira no Rio Drino, que foi construída de 1979 a 1988, desde o tempo do ditador Enver Hoxha, perto da vila de Koman, abrange uma áre de 34 km2.
As we move towards Fierzë, the clear waters and the nature, at every moment, surprises us with breathtaking landscapes such as dense green hills, deep canyons and waterfalls. This was, by far, the most interesting trip I have done to this country and is among my best ones around the World regarding to landscapes.
À medida que nos movemos em direção a Fierzë, as águas cristalinas e a natureza, a toda a hora, surpreendem-nos com paisagens de cortar a respiração tais como colinas verdejantes, desfiladeiros profundos e cascatas. Esta foi, de longe, a viagem mais interessante que fiz a este país e está entre as minhas melhores do Mundo em termos de paisagens.
Traditionally, after arriving at Firzë by ferry or boat, and from there to Valbonë by bus, the trip includes a trekking from Valbonë to Theth, from where a bus is taken to return back to Shkodër or Tiranë, the starting points.
Depois da chegada a Fierzë de ferribote ou de barco e de se prosseguir de autocarro até Valbonë, a viagem, tradicionalmente, inclui uma caminhada de Valbonë para Theth, onde se toma um autocarro de regresso a Shkodër ou a Tiranë, os pontos de partida.
As I was looking for a quite place to spend a single night, I have found the scenery around the guesthouse Qubu i Valbones gorgeous and I did not hesitate to stay there.

Como eu procurava um lugar tranquilo para passar apenas uma noite, achei o cenário em redor da pensão Qubi i Valbones espetacular e não heistei em lá ficar.
