The Stations of the Cross at the sanctuary of Our Lady of Budziszyn_the church
On our way back from the Liw Castle, where we attended the Masovian Carnival celebration, we paid a visit to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Budzieszyn. It is located not far from the tiny village of Męczyn-Kolonia to the north of Mokobody. This place is famous for its wonder-working spring - Cudowne Źródło Budzieszyn (in Polish). According to the plaque at the water well, the water appeared at the field altar, in which there was a wonder-working image of the Mother of God. The use of this water combined with deep faith and prayer, with God's grace, healed many people from their incurable diseases and from their suffering, especially from eye diseases.
As to the origin of this place, another memorial plaque reads,
“At this place, during one of the expeditions against the Yotvingians, who attacked the Polish population in the 12th and 13th centuries, there was a field altar of the Polish Army here, and it contained an image of the Mother of God. The Mother of God from that image miraculously woke up the weary Polish knights. As a result, She saved them from the inevitable death at the hands of the Yotvingians. That is why this place was called "Zbudzishyn". And to keep this image, a church was built in this place in 1458. Michał Goliginowicz created a parish here. A wonderful spring appeared near to the church.”
Pilgrims who come to Mokobody traditionally visit the Budzieszyn Sanctuary.
In 1947, a grotto made of field stones was built next to the wonder-working spring.
The grotto was modelled on the grotto in Lourdes.
The memorial plaque at the wonder-working spring reads,
“This grotto was built in 1947 in gratitude to Our Lady of Budzieszyn
for saving the parish from the destruction of the last war.
It was built by the parishioners under the leadership of Antoniak
during the time of Fr. W. Winer.”
In the eighties of the 20th century, a new church was erected, and a calvary was made to serve the numerous pilgrims. Especially large crowds gather in Budzieshyn for the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord on August 6, and in Mokobody for the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8.

Local tradition connects the beginnings of the cult of Our Lady of Budzieszyn with the twelfth-century legend about the miraculous awakening of Polish soldiers by the extraordinary glow emanating from the image of Our Lady and Child, thanks to which the Polish camp was saved from the treacherous attack of the Yotvingians. This is the origin of the etymology of the name of Budzieszyn, which was originally called "Zbuszisyn" (to awaken the sons), and then "Budzisin" and now "Budzieszyn".

A church was built in the town of Mokobody and a parish was formed in 1513. Information about the local spring that cured various diseases and human weaknesses, especially the eye diseases, spread quickly in the past. Numerous religious leaders from the nearby Węgrów confirmed seeing the numerous votive offerings left at this place as a form of gratitude for the healings obtained and for the requests answered. The wonder-working image of Virgin Mary was decorated with an embroidered cloth in 1737, and then in 1787, a silver frame was attached to it. It was made of the melted votive offerings gathered around the image.

In 1874, Fr.Kaliński, an Orthodox Russian, the Head of the Siedlce Church District, had his eyes healed by washing with water from the spring. In gratitude he obtained a high permission to build a chapel there. Then Jan Popowski, a townsman of Mokobodzki, at his own expense, built the chapel that stands there to this day.
The sanctuary located near the town of Mokobody was visited by believers from distant areas. The sanctuary with an image of Our Lady of Budziszyn, belongs to the Roman Catholic parish of St.Hedwig's Church in Mokobody. The sanctuary contains numerous statues representing Jesus Christ, Virgin Mary, saints and the scenes from the Bible.

There is a monument to Our Lady of the Rosary near the wonder-working spring. We read the information board that stands at the foot of the monument. It reminded us that Our Lady of the Rosary had appeared every 13th day of the month from May to October 1917 in Fatima, Portugal. Children who saw Virgin Mary: - Lúcia, 10 years old; Francisco, 8 years old (Blessed Francis) — Jacinta, 7 years old (Blessed Jacinta).

Our Lady showed the hell to children. Many souls go to hell, because there is no one to pray and offer for them. Francisco and Jacinta offered themselves to sinners and soon died in huge suffering. Pope John Paul II announced them blessed. Lúcia joined the order and lived to the old age. She died in 2005 at the age of 97. Our Lady called for conversion, rosary prayer, devotion to her Immaculate Heart, the Holy Communion.

The large memorial plaque reads,
In commemoration of the soldiers of the September campaign of the People’s Army, who perished and died in the struggle for the freedom and independence of Poland in the area of the Mokobody Commune.

We stood and prayed in front of the monument to the Most Sacred Heart of God. The two memorial plaques on a blue background read,
The Most Sacred Heart of God,
We devote our homeland, our cities and villages, our families and ourselves to you.
Centuries ago the Polish army was resting after their fighting with Yotvingians.
Here the Mother of God woke up the tired warriors from their dreams protecting them from death at the hands of the enemy.
