Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi

Community Highlights Asia Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi

Koh Lanta was a week of 3 pool swims (before breakfast, afternoon and before bed) and an ocean swim everyday. The beach is fantastic and the water is almost too warm (don’t curse me!). Also a few little jelly fish stings but so worth it. We stayed in a great place with 2 bedrooms & bathrooms and a huge living room/kitchen area. Walking out the patio door right to the pool was amazing. We ate well too! There was a BBQ place close by that Joe from Texas runs and the food was delicious not to mention a nice break from rice. Steve had to try all the meat! We also frequented Mama Dang’s for amazing Thai food. My favourite was the Panang curry, Steve loved the yellow curry and the kids mixed it up with different Thai dishes and a side order of fries 💁‍♀️.

From Koh Lanta we went to Koh Phi Phi. Again, amazing beaches and the water is so clear. The accommodations were a lot more basic (4 single mattresses, a mini fridge, and a bathroom that had the shower head right above the toilet) but right on the beach 🏝️.

We used Blue View diving for a scuba trip as we heard the diving in the area is excellent. We saw a huge variety of fish (turns out my vomit attracts them), and the seascape was wild - lots of places for marine life to hide out. We also saw hawksbill turtles!!! My dream ❤️. I can’t access the pictures of the dive until we are home but as M says, I have mental Polaroids! The turtles made up for how many times I puked off the side of the longboat. Oh yeah - no bathroom on a longboat so what do you do if you need to make a #2? You motor up to a big boat and ask sweetly to use their toilet!

We spent another day in Koh Lanta journeying from island to island on a speedboat. It was fun but we were doing it with dozens of other boatloads of tourists. So weird to be in some of the most beautiful spots like Maya Bay and there be people absolutely everywhere. I didn’t want to miss going though! And Steve was able to get a couple of pics without anyone in them. There was some great snorkeling on the trip and we saw anemones with clown fish (Nemo fish) and black tipped sharks. Also caught a gorgeous sunset.

We are finished our island time now and are taking the ferry to Krabi and then flying to Bangkok. I’m going to miss the beach! We have a few days to shop, shop, shop and are planning to buy a new bag or two because living out of carryon has left very little room to buy things (I’ve used every bit of space possible and Steve won’t give me anymore of his!).
