View from Chapelle Sainte-Sixte - Eygalières in the distance by Beausoleil
Chapelle Sainte-Sixte is a tiny chapel outside the village of Eygalières. It is completely isolated and seems in a very lonely place but in reality, you just drive a few minutes into a lively market town. The views of the Alpilles are spectacular here and there are seldom other people around.

Stopping for an ice cream at Les Gaufres d'An'ny in Périgueux, France by Beausoleil
We skipped dessert at lunch promising ourselves to stop for an ice cream later. This was later and it had gotten quite warm so we really enjoyed ourselves.

Église Saint Julien, Tursac by Beausoleil
We stopped in Tursac for lunch and afterwards walked through the tiny town to see what was there. The church was locked so we only saw the outside. The entire village was spotlessly clean and the flowers were beautiful.

Rue des Osiers in Orbec - half-timbered houses by Beausoleil
Orbec is a small town of about 2500 people that is trying very hard to stay relevent. They are currently fixing up the center of town. The other Catholic church has been renovated multiple times and is known for its beautiful renaissance stained glass windows. There is a marvelous 1568 manor house that has been made a local museum which is free and a treasure of local lore. They have several very nice restaurants, lots of parking and very friendly folks to help you find things. There is a model of the town in front of the museum that has the sights numbered and labeled.

Château-Musée-de-Saint-Germain-de-Livet - view across the moat by Beausoleil
Listed as a Historic Monument, the Château de Saint-Germain-de-Livet is located 10 minutes from Lisieux. Surrounded by moats where majestic swans sail, this architectural gem includes a half-timbered manor from the 15th century and a checkerboard construction of stones and glazed bricks from Pré d'Auge from the end of the 16th century. The museum contains the furniture and collections of the family who donated the estate to the city of Lisieux in 1958. An overview of living in the 19th century invites you to discover the artistic and personal career of the painter Léon Riesener, grandson of the cabinetmaker Jean-Henri Riesener and cousin of the famous artist Eugène Delacroix.
Château de Falaise or the Château Guillaume-le-Conquérant - first view by Beausoleil
The Château de Falaise is a castle from the 12th-13th century, located in Falaise in Normandy, France. William the Conqueror, the son of Duke Robert of Normandy, was born at an earlier castle on the same site in about 1028. It is open to the public and well worth a visit. The town of Falaise is full of interesting sites including the castle, several historic churches, another more recent chateau, a museum of automats and the André Lemaitre Museum of art.

Mont-Saint-Michel - a chapel by Beausoleil
To visit the Abbey Church you hike up to it and then purchase a ticket for admission. It is worth the hike and the admission. The cult of Saint Michael was introduced in 708 on the Mont, which became one of the greatest centers of medieval pilgrimage. The Benedictines built an abbey there from the 10th century. A challenge to the onslaught of men, time and the elements. During the Hundred Years War (14th-15th centuries), the heroic resistance of the Mont to the English made it a symbolic place of national identity. It was one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Left by the monks in 1790, the abbey was classified as a historic monument in 1874. The entire site has regained its past splendor thanks to constant restoration work.
