About @spocklogic

Physicist

I was a member of TravBuddy for 10 years and VirtualTourist for a few years also as spocklogic.

I make my home in Virginia, a lovely and historic state, where I work for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration at Langley Research Center, the oldest of all the NASA centers. I actually grew up and did all my schooling in New England until I came to Virginia to work for NASA. In some way I suppose I consider both places (Virginia and New England) special, having lived 1/2 my live in each place at this point. I enjoy a good career as a scientist, a physicist by profession in particular, but my specialized fields are in spectroscopy, lasers and optics. I enjoy my work and it is indeed an honor to serve my government and the people of the United States in my capacity as a scientist. I have the added benefit of my job in feeling that the things I contribute have meaning and value to our world - that is very satisfying!

  • Hobbies:

Prefer to say interests rather than hobbies: Physics, philosophy, sociology, psychology, artistic expression, chess, poetry, painting, drawing, sculpture, film (classic-contemporary-foreign), nature, history, evolution, travel, sports, literature, mythology, star trek, science fiction, fencing, martial arts, zen buddhism, personal growth, writing, existentialism, love, synchronicity, serendipity.

  • Favourite places:

I have always enjoyed seeing new places, but it was mostly inside the USA up until 1995, when I began to have more international experiences. My first international destination was Italy and it opened my mind to the realization that there was a whole wide world out with different languages, customs, culture and food. I've been back to Italy many times since, but the first one will always remain special as an experience that widened my horizons, so to speak. The world is a very big place and I will never see all of it, but I consider it one of the great joys in my live (aside from my professional work as a scientist) to be able to travel the world and experience the multitude of variety it offers in experience. Indeed, it is something that has become part of the fabric of my life and something I will likely continue to do as long as I live or am able to.
