Tuileries Gardens - playing with boats in the pond by Beausoleil
This is my favorite place in Paris. There are lots of tourists but there are just as many Parisians. It's a great shortcut with fountains, art, chairs, ducks and even horses when the helpful police come through.
Fontaine Saint-Michel at Place Saint-Michel - with vendors and construction by Beausoleil
This was not the charming meeting place it usually is. Hopefully it was back in order by the Olympics in a month.
Exploring Rue Mouffetard between showers - Fontaine Guy Lartigue by Beausoleil
We spent a month once a few blocks from rue Mouffetard and did our shopping there. It is still a favorite place in Paris and when we are visiting, we always spend some time looking to see what is still there and what has moved. Androuet's Fromagerie can't be beat and we love Saveurs de Savoie restaurant for a nice fondue on a cold rainy day. There is a tea shop for unusual teas and always ice cream and lots of fruits and vegetables. Saines was our boulangerie and we got to know them well. For ordinary groceries, there is a FrancPrix supermarket that is just the right size, small but useful. I try to stay away from the patisseries but occasionally succumb.

Wallace Fountain in Place St. Germain - There are 109 Wallace Fountains, all different. by Beausoleil
There are Wallace Fountains all over Paris and they are a great place to refill your water bottle. In the early 1870s after seeing Paris suffer from a water shortage during the Prussian siege and the Commune, a wealthy British heir in love with Paris decided to offer Paris drinking fountains. Sir Richard Wallace sketched an elegant and ingenious fountain and the sculptor Charles-Auguste Lebourg created it. Perched on a pedestal, under a dome with a decor inspired by nature, four caryatids protect a stream of fresh water. By 2022 there were 109 Wallace Fountains and each of the caryatids holding the domes are different. They all represent virtues. The choice of the location of each fountain was left to the City of Paris. Most are located in small public squares or at the intersection of two or major streets. Eau de Paris is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance and restoration of the fountains. There are about ten original models left. They are part of a network of 1200 drinking fountains in the city. An original model of a Wallace Fountain, previously installed in Place Denfert-Rochereau, has been restored and installed in the courtyard of the Carnavalet Museum which is dedicated to the history of Paris. Visitors can fill their water bottles there.

The L'embacle Fountain across from Les Deux Magots by Beausoleil
Place Jean-Paul-Sartre-et-Simone-de-Beauvoir has the L'embacle Fountain that is mostly underground. It is a surprise because it looks like the pavement is broken until you get near and then you see and hear the water. This is diagonally across from Église de Saint-Germain-des-Prés and across from Les Deux Magots so a highlight of Paris.

Fontaine des Quatre Évêques (Four Bishops Fountain) or Fontaine Saint-Sulpice or Fountain of the Orators by Beausoleil
As you leave Saint-Sulpice Church in Paris, you are greeted with the sight of this beautiful fountain. It was turned off this particular day because they were getting ready to set up the Poesie Market. When the Market goes up for a month, the fountain disappears behind all the tents for a month.
The Cavaillé-Coll Organ in Saint Sulpice Church - Paris by Beausoleil
Eglise Saint Sulpice iis rather confusingly designated the second largest church in Paris by some writers and the third largest church by other writers. I'll let them fight it out. It is very large. There are several reasons to visit it. We love to go to the organ concerts there. In 1862, the current pipe organ, constructed by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, was added to the church and it is magnificent. It has 6600 pipes and five ranks and a sound that you can feel in your bones. Only the organ in Saint Eustache in Paris is larger. Saint Sulpice also has a gnomon specifically designed to determine the traditional date of Easter, which corresponded to the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox. The device has a brass, north-south meridian running up through the middle of the obelisk, with a brass ball at the top and you can follow the brass line on the floor of the church. As you enter the church, to your right is the Angels' Chapel that has three murals by Delacroix. As you exit the church, you face Place Saint Sulpice that holds the beautiful Fontaine des Quatre Évêques (Four Bishops Fountain) or Fontaine Saint-Sulpice or Fountain of the Orators. It's one of my favorite fountains in Paris but in June it is covered by the many tents set up for the Poesie Market held there each year. This last June we got a few pictures before the Market went up but the water had already been turned off. Go in July through May if you want a good view.

Fontaine des Quatre Évêques (Four Bishops Fountain) or Fontaine Saint-Sulpice or Fountain of the Orators by Beausoleil
Many names for one fountain. It's beautiful and I love it, but this is my only photo of it on this trip. The next day, the annual Poesie Festival moved into the Place Saint Sulpice and covered the beautiful fountain. It's a wonderful book fair so I didn't mind.
Pernes-les-Fontaines - Back to the Market Hall by Beausoleil
Pernes-les-Fontaines is famous for having 41 fountains. There are supposedly more than 60 but many are private. The tourist office has a Fountain Map for free that gives you a walk through town to find fountains. These are just the ones in the Old Town area and it gives you historic monuments along the way. It's a lovely walk in a very interesting and friendly town. As it turned out, the water wasn't turned on the day we were there, probably due to the current drought, so the fountains were all dry. I'm sure they would be beautiful with water, but they were all interesting nevertheless. We did half the route in the morning, had a wonderful lunch and then followed the rest of the trail in the afternoon. It's a fun way to spend a day.
