Hi everyone!

I’m planning a trip to Rome and would love some advice on visiting the Vatican City. What are the must-see places? Do you have any tips on avoiding long lines or interesting guided tours to recommend?

If you have any useful resources or tips for preparing, I’m all ears!

Thanks in advance for your help!

It is really cost effective to get a guide IMHO. Once you enter the museum you have to go all the way through it to get to the Sistine Chapel. You can't short cut, and you can't leave and come back. The guide also explained St. Peters to us and told us about attending a Mass. https://grandmarmed.travellerspoint.com/8/ Keep in mind that this visit was in 2008 and much has changed since then.

We didn't get to see the gardens which might have been nice to see. My daughter when
she went climbed the dome. I didn't do that.

You can only visit Basilica San Pietro (and the necropolis underneath, for an extra charge), the Vatican museums and the Vatican Gardens. It's best to book online in advance unless you're happy to stand in queues. This is the official site for tickets:

Entry to the Basilica is free.

You'll have to go through (and queue for) airport-style security for both the museums and the Basilica (probably the gardens too, though I haven't visited them) so allow time for that.
