Dear All,
I am looking for accommodation in newyork for me and my friend in late october for two days.
We want to do a tour in the city, i think Manhattan is a good place to stay?
Do you have any option/suggestion from where i can find cheap accommodation, I have tried several websites including airbnb.com and roomster.com , is there other good website that i can search for a motel?
Looking forward to your reply.

I assume you mean New York City.
How about the YMCA?

Right here on TP is booking.com which is what we usually use. I got a less-than-advertised place from Airbnb once so don't use them anymore. On the grey banner above, click on Accommodation to get to booking.com or click here: Booking.com on TravellersPoint
There is also a site called trivago but you have to be a little careful. They will give you prices from different web sites, but some of those web sites are not completely ethical. If you use trivago, only book on web sites you know are safe, like Orbitz, Booking.com, Travelocity, etc. the well-known ones. We like booking.com because most will let you cancel up to the day before and most don't charge you until you actually get there. Read the fine print because all of the places don't fall into those categories.
Good luck and enjoy your trip.

I'm a life member of Hostelling International USA. Rates are reasonable for NYC. I haven't stayed at this hostel, but I looked around the ground floor recently and it was nice. It's on the Upper West Side and is convenient to public transportation. It's close to Columbia University. When I'm in the Big Apple, I stay with a friend who lives in the area.
On another thread you asked about train vs. plane travel from Boston to Washington, D.C. If you're thinking of rail, recommend you book in advance. Check this Amtrak Web site for schedule and prices: https://www.amtrak.com/northeast-train-routes
If you're thinking of flying, know that the D.C. metro area is served by three airports, Ronald Reagan (DCA), Dulles (IAD) and Baltimore-Washington International (BWI). Southwest Airlines, which doesn't charge for two checked bags (you also can bring a carry-on and a personal item) serves BWI. Southwest only sells tickets on its Web site. I'm now in Vladivostok, Russia, and Southwest blocks access to its Web site from here. It takes about 6.5 to 8 hours by train from Boston; and about 90 minutes flying. The train gets you to Union Station in D.C., which is convenient.
Sorry, I can't be of further help as I am flying this morning to Kamchatka for hiking; and I don't expect to have Internet nor mobile phone access for about two weeks.

While I use booking.com I found hotels.com to be better when looking for accommodation in America. For whatever reason there just seems to be more listings. If you want to go cheap hostels are really your best bet. You don't list your nationality but if you aren't American whatever website you use be sure to have it set to your country of origin. That way the prices are calculated taxes inclusive.
